Chocolate Chip Cookies
A childhood favorite and usually one of the first things you learn how to bake, these chewy cookies are everything you loved about being a kid. And they're so versatile too!
Ingredients
- 8 oz Unsalted Butter or two sticks at room temperature
- 4 oz Granulated Sugar
- 4 oz Brown Sugar
- 2 oz Molasses
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 12 oz All-purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 12 oz Chocolate Chips or other mix-ins such as candy pieces, dried fruit, or spices
Instructions
Mise en Place
- Scale out your ingredients
- Prepare baking sheets by lining with parchment paper
- Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda
Mix Your Ingredients
- Cream together in a bowl with a hand-held or power mixer the butter, sugars, and molasses on low speed until combined
- Add the vanilla
- Add eggs one at a time until thoroughly blended
- Add in the flour mixture a third at a time, making sure not to over mix
- Add the chocolate chips or whatever mix-ins you wish
Get Ready to Bake
- Scoop onto the prepared baking sheets balls of the dough
- Place sheets into the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F
Time to Bake
- Take the baking sheets out of the refrigerator
- Reshape the balls of dough and space evenly apart on the baking sheets
- Bake in the oven until golden and delicious looking. On average this could take 12-15 minutes

Notes
Some of my favorite mix-ins are chocolate chips and dried cherries. Other ideas are Reese’s Pieces, M&Ms, dried cranberries and white chocolate chips, or the classic oatmeal and raisins. If you’re going to go with dried fruit, I would add a teaspoon or two of cinnamon to bring out the flavors.
